Mystery Shopping is Not About You - by Ethan Hunter
This is NOT ABOUT YOU! It is about the business and the service that you provide, insights, input, analysis you can render. It is not about YOUR opinion, preferences, advice, ideas etc. it is what that business chooses to do with the information you provide that matters! Be as accurate, honest, forthcoming, objective and detailed as you can be to ensure that the information is useful, meaningful, feasible and can make a difference, be used, increasing the odds of you being asked back for another round or two! You can become thus a trusted ally and business partner, without even trying too hard, doing the thing you enjoy most!
This is NOT about your ego, getting retribution, revenge, unmasking a business or airing what you do not like about a business. It is objective distancing from there personal type feelings and opinions, for a more objective evaluation of the company, event, staff, scenario and customer service that you are contracted to evaluate, observe, report on. Ask and answer for yourself if this business is doing what it is supposed to, sets out and prides itself on doing, does it live up to its reputation, promises and service delivery.
Keep your personal feelings and opinions to yourself and OUT OF YOUR BUSINESS! This sounds counter-productive, but to not risk credibility and keep/sell the value of what you have to offer it has to a certain extent need to be neutral and objective, quantifiable, illustrated by/with examples, data-driven and fact-based.
Business takes time to grow and establish, which by implication means/needs hard work, commitment, time, effort and energy. It is a serious matter and not left up to random chance for success. YOU NEED TO PLAN TO SUCCEED AND GET RESULTS, or you simply will not! You need to familiarize yourself with what it takes to be a GREAT Mystery Shopper that businesses want and request by name!
