· Techniques For Succeeding At Mystery Shopper
It is up to you to protect your ‘secret identity’ as a mystery shopper. This is your best form of currency and precious commodity. It is what enables and empowers you in these processes and industry. It helps your business enact, transact and grow. If your cover, identity, purpose and incognito status are revealed you lose, risk all!
In your own best interest, for earnings potential to come to fruition, YOU NEED TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS for the larger extent. You cannot afford to be caught out or betrayed as it will as a mystery or guest shopper, evaluator and the like. It will make the whole process null and void and you will not get paid. That is the real risk and reality here.
You can remain committed to your hidden identity and purpose quite easily with practice. Just remain as close to the original customer experience and immerse yourself in what is happening. You can hone, harness and develop your skills with every assignment you take on and thus become more and more comfortable with what it is that you are doing and the service you are providing to clients. Initially it might feel a little strange and a bit more of a challenge to stay ‘secret’, but before you know it, it will be second nature and come quite naturally. This will make it less and less probable that you will be found out. You will start feeling more at ease with what is required of you in the moment, prior to and after the experience itself.
How to ensure your Mystery Shopper identity stays intact and does not get revealed to employees, location, customers, others…
GO ALONE! Do not risk blowing your cover, by having someone with you. Decrease your risk of being found out. If you are taking a guest with you, ensure that they are oblivious, in the dark and non-the-wiser on what it is that you are actually doing or undertaking.
Do your best to be, act and do as you normally would, as a customer. Role play and immerse yourself in the unfolding events, task at hand and get the job done. Do not over-exaggerate or overplay your hand. BE YOURSELF. Remain calm and collected and just go about your business as usual. IF for some reason someone suspects you are a mystery shopper and even asks you about it, rehearse some back-pocket responses like not at all, sounds interesting or what is that exactly again, never heard of it, tell me more… etc.
Keep the tell-tale signs of your status, role and cover out of sight! If you do need these tools, like your notebook or timing device, be subtle and keep them out of plain sight.
Digital devices are so commonplace these days, that you can easily use them to remember details later, while having them right there in your hand. You do not need to be too obvious about it. The inside of your check-book and even cell-phone camera can come in quite handy. You can be resourceful without being obvious about it!
Be in inquiry mode and have some questions ready to ask to get you the information that you need. Time and phrase them well and let it unfold naturally, like a flowing conversation and exchange, typically would. |
